Albuquerque Public Schools
The new West Side Community Stadium fills a sore need for a third shared facility for the Albuquerque Public School District’s high school athletics programs. The new stadium relieves the overburden on the two existing stadiums, eliminates the Owner’s logistical nightmare of scheduling sports events for 13 high schools and 39 football teams, and advances the District’s athletic program with a modern facility.
The complex includes a 7,000-seat football stadium, 2,600-seat track and field facility, parking for about 1,450 vehicles, and shared support facilities. Spectator amenities include four concession buildings with restrooms, an enclosed press box with film deck, a field house with team rooms, conference and official’s areas, and maintenance storage. The track and field includes a team pavilion, separate seating for field events, and an official’s booth.
The West Side Community Stadium was a sizable project. The $31 million complex included over 21,000 cubic yards of concrete, 510,000 cubic yards of earthwork, 16,800 tons of asphalt, 11,000 linear feet of storm drain, over 100 acres of undeveloped land, and more than 20 subcontractors.
It benefits the many thousands of Albuquerque Public School athletes and fans of athletic programs and will likely serve as the site of State Championship athletic events for generations to come.
