Albuquerque Public Schools
The Jackson Middle School Classroom Block project is a 44,819-square foot, two-story new construction project for Albuquerque Public Schools.
Valued at $16.4 million, this project provides a complete replacement of the existing campus classroom buildings with 24 spacious classrooms, a fine arts room with kiln, 14 restrooms, three computer/STEAM labs, two teachers’ lounges, one occupational therapy/physical therapy room, an elevator, divided staff and student balconies with striking views of the Sandia Mountains, and an outdoor classroom amphitheater.
Designed and constructed to achieve a LEED Silver Certification, the Jackson Middle School Classroom Block project includes a brise soleil feature with 750 individually-cut aluminum panels to minimize the building’s heat gain; a 24-foot custom mosaic tile wall creating a jaguar jungle scene; and geometric metal work at handrails, guardrails, and window eyebrows.
Designed by Design Plus and consulting engineers Testudo Engineering, Inc., Heatly Engineering, High Mesa Consulting Engineers, and constructed by Thompson Construction, Inc. and 31 specialty subcontractors and installers – including 12 ABC member companies – the Jackson Middle School Classroom Block delivers a wow-worthy learning space for a growing school.
