Albuquerque Public Schools
The Arroyo Del Oso Elementary School Campus Replacement is a new construction and demolition project totaling 72,000 square feet and $36 million. This sprawling, two-story building features two kitchens, a cafeteria, media center, 29 classrooms, a gymnasium, elevator, music room, 25 restrooms, nursing office, teachers’ lounge, library, media center, conference rooms, and administrative offices. New site features include a dedicated bus access road, a student drop-off loop, staff parking lot, new electrical and stormwater service connections, kindergarten playground, and shared-use park with community walking track.
The project was constructed across a 600-day schedule by an estimated 200 tradespeople – including many ABC apprentices and apprentice graduates – representing 40 specialty subcontractors and suppliers. Unique project features included a Rammed Aggregate Pier ground improvement system totaling 5,119 vertically-drilled feet completed in just six days!
Building finishes include a colorful metal wall panel system, polished concrete floors, wood panel ceilings, scalloped vertical acoustical panels, and vibrant laminated glazing.

The Albuquerque Public Schools project was designed by Roma Architects, constructed by Thompson Construction and its team of subcontractors, and paid for by General Obligation bonds. It represents the critical work of the skilled trades in igniting the potential of future generations.
